The East Cheshire and Stockport Breast Screening Service is part of the National Breast Screening Programme and provides a free breast screening service for well women aged between 50 and 70, serving residents in Stockport plus those women living in East Cheshire. We aim to provide and promote an efficient and effective, high quality breast screening service, to all eligible women within a caring environment.

Age extension has begun in the East Cheshire and Stockport area. This means that we are beginning to invite women from 47 years of age. This will happen over a period of time and will eventually mean that all women receive their first invitation before their 53rd birthday. Breast screening aims to find breast cancer at an early stage, often before there are any symptoms. To do this, an x-ray is taken of each breast (mammogram). Early detection may often mean simpler and more successful treatment. read more

When will I be invited for breast screening?

The East Cheshire and Stockport Breast Screening Service invites around 65,000 women every three years for screening. Screening is organised according to your GP practice. Once every three years your GP practice will be contacted and all women between the ages of 50 and 70 will be routinely invited.
